My father-in-law
used to say; “If a man is not rich by 40, he may never be rich and if a man is
not wise by 50, he may never be wise”.
Well, I am not sure about the wealth and riches as I have left my 40 a
long time ago. But while climbing in my
50s, I guess, I may have at least a few words of wisdom for those who wish to
be rich and wise.
When you are in
your 20s, you think 40 is a long way up in your old age and suddenly you wake
up one day and realize you have arrived.
Too bad if you have not accumulated enough perishables to make you rich
by then! The older you get the faster
the years roll on. So, work hard while
you are at it; whether earning or learning.
Working hard pays
off if you love doing what you do. So, find the thing that captivates your
heart and mind. The sooner you find it the better. Don’t waste your life doing what you hate
doing. Other people will always tell you
what to do and what is good for you. But
only your heart knows what it wants to do.
Listen to your heart and check it with your mind if it makes sense. If it does, go for it. Doubt everybody but yourself.
If you want to
do the things you love doing, you should know that it all begins in a dream. Some call it a vision for life. Keep your dreams to yourself and talk to them. If you must tell to someone, let it be only
God. Keep dreaming until you begin to
see your initial dreams giving birth to other dreams.
Everything has
its beginning in a dream. A person without a dream ends up dying doing the
things he hates doing. But dreams create
words (prayers) and words create realities.
What kind of realities do you want?
If you can’t verbalize to yourself what you want in life, you will
achieve nothing. So, write your dreams
and keep them in a safe place. Read
them, speak them out loud and touch them with your fingers as often as you can.
Life is too
short to wait for things to happen. You
make them happen. I was abandoned at
birth. Had suicidal thoughts from the
age of six and decided to end my life when I was 17. But something happened at 17. I met Jesus Christ who challenged me to dream
for a better life. I did. I dreamt of education, I got it. I dreamt of a loving family, I got it. I
dreamt of preaching and teaching about the Lord Jesus, I got it. I could go on and on to list the things I
dreamt and how they have become realities in my life, but suffice to let you
know it works that way.
If you want to
be rich, learn everything about money and how it is created. Becoming rich has little to do with hard work
and everything to do with how one thinks.
If you want to be wise, speak your mind. Your thoughts are your original
creation. If you can’t speak your mind
for whatever reasons, you will die a fool because no one cares what you have in
your mind unless you express it in your words.
Today’s world
provides limitless opportunities to express one’s mind in words just as it
provides limitless opportunities to make wealth. You can bake clay and make pottery out of it at
home and sell it in the internet world.
Much more so, you can write or speak and the world is ready to read and
listen.
Don’t allow
other people’s opinions to stop you from becoming a rich and a wise person
regardless of at what age you are right now.
The saying “better late than never” has truth. Don’t die without doing the things you love
to do and saying the things you wish to say.
